The 2000 Toyota MR2 is a mid-engined chassis design and was available only as a spider. The original import number is around 5000. Toyota kept the import number low to test consumer demand.
One model, one drive train, one trim level, six exterior colors and 3 interior colors were all that were originally offered. The only options available in 2000 were dealer installed accessories consisting of a tonneau cover, wheel locks and a protective mask for the front end. However, carpeted front floor mats were available for $62.00.
The only engine available was Toyota's 1.8L VVT-i dual overhead cam inline four producing 138 hp @ 6,400 rpm. Transmission consisted of a 5 speed manual only. The combination offered 125 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm.
